A modern Odyssey in the era of the Bit: the telematics between shipwreck and development of Freedom

The following is the abstract of the MA Thesis I worked on completion of my course of study in Philosophy, and defended at the University of Catania , in 1999.

The thesis is divided in 4 chapters, plus an introduction and a conclusion. The research explores the the ethical and philosophical effects of new communication media, especially the Internet, on the traditional philosophical concepts of Liberty, Humanity and Society.

The First Chapter – after a brief historical background of on communication of Media, the chapters focuses on the concept of Information.

The Second Chapter focuses on the concept of Liberty and how it is changing in the technological age.

The Third Chapter explores the dichotomy between Body and Mind with regard to the cyberspace.

The Fourth Chapter focuses its attention on the concept of Space and explores the future of theconcept of Democracy.
