Guy writes: I personally loved the Azden SGM-2X and the Sennheiser MKE 400 mic for my outdoor video shooting purposes. There is a large variety of different DSLR camera (camcorders too of course) microphones to chose from. You should take your budget and video shooting needs into consideration of course. I recommending reading reviews on dedicated microphone sites and follow user commented on Amazon and other online stores where you can see the ratings of user reviews in order to make a decision. I am not a professional audio expert, and therefore I present this review just to get you a head start before making a decision on which microphone to go along with your DSLR camera. Expensive new DSLR cameras are wonderful for videos, even with kit lenses… yet a good video is nothing without good audio. The internal mic in DSLR such as Canon D60, or 7D or even 5D Mark II are mono and delivery pretty bad performance if compared to the video attached to them. So which mic to buy for a brand new dslr? Well I was asking my self the same question and came across this wonderful video from Guy Cochran, of dvestore.com. Guy has recorded a video-microphone comparison. He shot the video on a Canon 5D and he uses a professional multitrack field recorder in a noisy environment with everything from a lavalier to hypercardoid to shotgun microphones.
