(From Der Himmel über Berlin)

Als das Kind Kind war,
ging es mit hängenden Armen,
wollte der Bach sei ein Fluß,
der Fluß sei ein Strom,
und diese Pfütze das Meer. Continue reading »

The Fête de la Musique is a free music festival taking place on June 21, every year in many countries around the world. I have seen it twice, both times in Berlin. I think it is a wonderful idea and I always find it a cool experience. This year Fête de la Musique came on a Tuesday, in Berlin it was a strange day, mostly uncertain whether or not let the rain fall and spoil the party. Eventually only a few drops of rain came down, but no hard showers as it has been the norm in the past two weeks.

During la Fête de la Musique there are concerts everywhere in the city, but unfortunately too little time to see everything. In Berlin, given the size of the city, the best thing to do is to pick a borough and spend most of the time there. This year I picked Friedrichshain and I spent a few hours walking around it. At every corner there was someone playing something. I listened to several performances, some quite good, some quite crap. As usual, for Friedrichshain, the best acts were in the area around Revaler Strasse. Here are some of the pictures I took during my rambling around.

Some time ago I bough the Canon 60D, until recently I have been using it only to take picture, for that taks, it’s an excellent camera, but probably not the best around. The most annoying thing is probably the limited 9-points focus and no micro-adjustments. Certainly the Nikon d7000 and the Canon 7d are much better in that field. Yet, I cannot complain. I bought the camera for shooting videos and for that I think it’s the best choice around. The swivel LCD screen is amazingly useful when recording videos (especially if you are on your own) and to choose particular angles. You save on external monitors and the quality of the screen is very high. The video below is a short video shot for fun to test the quality of my Canon 60D. I used only one lens, the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f 2.8 and the Giotto 9351B Pro Tripod with MH5011 Head and 3-d adjustable column. The 3-d column and the Canon 60D’s swivel LCD were of great help in the shot from above the sink. The camera was in a higher position than me and I could check the recording thanks to the LCD rotated towards me. Continue reading »
